Summary

The following presentation overviews the status of Thailand’s social enterprises, and its background. Thailand’s social enterprise journey officially began in 2009 when the prime minister decreed the social enterprise promotion, setting up a national SE board. The Thai Social Enterprise Office itself was set up in 2010, under the approval by the Cabinet as a strategic part of the 5-year national social enterprise promotion masterplan. The process of how SEs function, the certification process, and other incentives that push for active creation of SEs are discussed in detail. Furthermore, the presentation stresses the importance of SSE policies in urban development in Thailand and provides a case that portrays the active role SEs play in the urban developmental process of Thailand.
