The 7th GSEF Global Social and Solidarity Economy Forum

From October 29 to 31, 2025, Bordeaux hosted the 7th GSEF Global Social and Solidarity Economy Forum, held in France for the first time following previous editions in Seoul, Montreal, Bilbao, Mexico City, and Dakar.

Held every two years, the GSEF Global Social and Solidarity Economy Forum is a major international gathering that brings together stakeholders from across the Social and Solidarity Economy ecosystem: local governments, SSE networks and stakeholders, international organizations, institutions, researchers, young people, and civil society representatives.

BordeauxGSEF2025 brought together 10,800 participants of more than 100 nationalities from 5 continents around a shared ambition: to share experiences, compare approaches, and strengthen the role of the SSE in developing responses to major social, economic, and environmental challenges.

The SSE at the heart of a just transition

The theme of BordeauxGSEF2025 was:

“The SSE, a prerequisite for a just transition toward resilient territories and the well-being of their residents”

Over three days, participants discussed the major challenges facing territories and their residents: SSE financing, the ecological transition, decent work, territorial cooperation and public action, empowerment, social services, innovation, and new narratives.

Through 169 round tables, plenary sessions, networking spaces, and numerous initiatives, the Forum provided an opportunity to share experiences from around the world and foster dialogue among grassroots stakeholders, local governments, networks, institutions, and researchers.

BordeauxGSEF2025 also placed a strong emphasis on youth, with 1,000 young people of 55 nationalities taking part in an international initiative that helped bring forward young people’s proposals for the SSE.

A Forum for building shared commitments

The GSEF Global Social and Solidarity Economy Forum is more than a space for sharing experiences. Each edition helps generate commitments, proposals, and collective initiatives aimed at strengthening the SSE at both the local and international levels.

BordeauxGSEF2025 resulted in several declarations and collective contributions, including the Bordeaux Declaration, the International Youth Declaration for the SSE, and the Declaration for Sustainable Peace.

These contributions carry the Forum’s discussions forward and contribute to the initiatives led by the GSEF and its members beyond Bordeaux.

An edition made possible by a collective effort

The 7th GSEF Global Social and Solidarity Economy Forum was co-organized by the City of Bordeaux, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, the Gironde Department, Bordeaux Métropole, CRESS Nouvelle-Aquitaine, ESS France, and the GSEF.
