Breakout Session 18
Session Organiser:
Korea Federation of Worker Cooperatives
The Korea Federation of Worker Cooperatives (KFWC) was originated in 2003 with the aim of promoting job creation for vulnerable social group in order to deal with the poverty and social problems. In 2007, KFWC changed its name to Korea Alternative Enterprise Association (KAEA) for resolving problems associated with the lack of legal grounds and participation among the society.
For KAEA pursing the value of creating jobs as well as providing social services to neglected social class has been of paramount importance. With this in its minds, KAEA is currently having 2,100 memberships with 105 enterprises and being a member of International Organization of Industrial, Artisanal and Service Producers’ Co-operatives (CICOPA) and an associate member of International Co-operative Alliance (ICA).
In 2012, KAEA was in need of an organization that deals with human rights for the workers based upon ‘Social Enterprise Promotion Act’. Therefore, KFWC was established among members of KAEA this time with the aim of protecting the rights and interests of laborers. KFWC is currently independent association and it considered to be as an independent organization.
On January 30th in 2013, the Korea Federation of Worker Cooperatives was established.
